The Coatings Inspector Program thermal spray inspection specialty is designed for those wanting more specialized training in thermal spray inspection. This specialty is an enhancement to your current Basic Coatings Inspector (CIP Level 1), Certified Coatings Inspector (CIP Level 2), or Senior Certified Coatings Inspector (CIP Level 3) certification. Requirements for obtaining the specialty include completing the Thermal Spray Inspection Course (THERMAL INSP) successfully along with the required exams.

This course is suited for project supervisors, inspectors involved in NAVSEA, and DOT thermal spray projects.

How to achieve the Thermal Spray Inspection Specialty

  1. Enroll and complete course requirements

    Successful completion of the Thermal Spray Inspection (THERMAL INSP) Course

    Successful completion of the Ethics for the Corrosion Professional course or an equivalent training

  2. Meet certification requirements

    Current Basic Coatings Inspector (CIP Level 1), Certified Coatings Inspector (CIP Level 2), or Senior Certified Coatings Inspector (CIP Level 3) certification

  3. Take required exams

    Thermal Spray Inspector Level 2 Exam (delivered via Examity)

Renewal requirements

Recertification will coincide with your Coatings Inspector Program (CIP) recertification every 3 years.
