General Requirements for All Instructors

Education

4 Year Diploma
OR
HS Diploma with an additional 10 years’ work experience
OR
Professional Engineer
OR
Higher Education (Master’s or PhD)

References

3 references from past supervisor, current or former colleague, personal friend (non-relative)

Course Level Mastery

Must have demonstrated mastery (or be willing to demonstrate mastery) of the exam in the class for which application to teach is being submitted

Additional

A background check will be performed on all candidates.
Preference will be given to applicants with technical expertise and prior instructor experience
Must be a NACE member in good standing


Coating Inspector Program (CIP)

CIP Level 1 & 2

• NACE CIP Level 3 Peer Review Certification (current certification or recertification earned within the last 10 years)
• 10 years’ coating inspector experience

CIP Nuclear

• NACE CIP Level 3 Peer Review Certification (current certification or recertification earned within the last 10 years)
• 10 years’ coating inspection experience
• 2 years’ experience in nuclear inspection

CIP Bridge

• NACE CIP Level 3 Peer Review Certification (current certification or recertification earned within the last 10 years)
• 10 years’ coating inspection experience
• 2 years’ experience in bridge inspection


Cathodic Protection (CP)

CP 1 Tester

• NACE CP 2 or NACE Corrosion Specialist + NACE CP 1
• 5 years’ cathodic protection experience

CP 2 Technician

• NACE CP 3 or NACE Corrosion Specialist + NACE CP 2
• 7 years’ cathodic protection experience

CP 3 Technologist

• NACE CP 4 or NACE Corrosion Specialist + NACE CP 3
• 7 years’ cathodic protection experience

CP 4 Specialist

• NACE CP 4 or NACE Corrosion Specialist
• 10 years’ cathodic protection experience

Coatings in Conjunction with CP

• NACE CIP Level 2 + NACE CP 2 or NACE Corrosion Specialist + CCCP
• 5 years’ experience in EACH coatings and CP

CP Interference

• NACE CP Technologist or NACE Corrosion Specialist + CP Interference
• 5 years’ experience testing and managing AC, DC, and telluric interference


General Corrosion

Basic Corrosion

• NACE Corrosion Specialist or NACE Senior Corrosion Technologist or equivalent classroom experience

Designing for Corrosion Control

• NACE Corrosion Specialist or NACE Senior Corrosion Technologist or equivalent classroom experience

Offshore Corrosion Assessment Training (O-CAT)

• NACE CIP Level 3 Peer Review
• 10 years’ experience in offshore coatings

Shipboard Corrosion Assessment Training (S-CAT)

• NACE CIP Level 3 Peer Review
• 10 years’ experience with marine vessels and corrosion condition assessment

Corrosion Control in the Refining Industry

• NACE Coatings Certification or NACE Corrosion Specialist
• 10 years’ experience in a refinery environment with a coatings emphasis


General Coatings

Protective Coatings Specialist (PCS) 1

• NACE CIP Level 3 Peer Review Certification or NACE PCS 2 (3 when available)

Protective Coatings Specialist (PCS) 2

• NACE CIP Level 3 Peer Review Certification or NACE PCS 2 (3 when available)
• Successfully taught PCS 1 a minimum of two times with average evaluation score of 4.5 or higher

Protective Coatings Specialist (PCS) 3

• NACE CIP Level 3 Peer Review Certification or NACE PCS 3 when available

Marine Coating Technology

• NACE CIP Level 3 Peer Review Certification (earned within the last 10 years) or PCS 2
• 10 years’ coating inspection experience
• 2 years’ experience in marine coatings inspection


Pipeline

Pipeline Coatings Integrity Management (PCIM)

• NACE Corrosion Specialist or NACE CP 3 Cathodic Protection Technologist + Internal Corrosion Technologist
• 5 years’ experience in pipeline integrity or asset management

Pipeline Corrosion Assessment Field Techniques (P-CAFT)

• NACE CIP Level 3 Peer Review Certification or PCS 2 or Senior Corrosion Technologist
• 5 years’ experience in pipeline coatings application, integrity or asset management

Direct Assessment

• NACE CP Technologist, Corrosion Specialist, or Senior Corrosion Technologist
• 5 years’ experience in direct assessment, integrity or asset management

In-Line Inspection

• NACE CP Technologist or Senior Corrosion Technologist
• 5 years’ experience in direct assessment, integrity or asset management


Internal Corrosion

Internal Corrosion – Basic

• NACE Internal Corrosion Technologist, Senior Internal Corrosion Technologist, Corrosion Specialist or Chemical Treatment Specialist
• 5 years’ experience in internal corrosion

Internal Corrosion – Advanced

• NACE Internal Corrosion Technologist, Senior Internal Corrosion Technologist, Corrosion Specialist or Chemical Treatment Specialist
• 10 years’ experience in internal corrosion
• Successfully taught a minimum of five courses in Internal Corrosion – Basic with an evaluation score of 4.5 or better
